Buying life insurance for a child? Don’t get charged smoker rates!
Author: Byron Udell
I still maintain the position that children don’t need life insurance unless you are dependant on their income. However, if you should decide that you do in fact want to insure your child’s life, be sure you don’t get charged smoker rates.
Strange as it may seem. Some life insurance carriers don’t begin to distinguish between smokers and non-smokers until age 18. Before that, they just have one rate, without any “discounts” for non-smoking.
Be sure to ask questions and shop around using a multi-carrier broker. It’s really the best way to ensure you’re getting the lowest rate available.
