End-of-life planning and life insurance

No one likes to think about it, an end-of-life plan can save you and your family a lot of problems down the road. So what should you be thinking about when creating your end-of-life plan? Here are some examples:

  • Who would you want to make health care decisions for your if you could not make them for yourself?
  • What legal documnents should be prepared (wills, trusts, power of attorney, etc.)
  • What decisions do you want to make about the type of life support or medical care you receive?
  • Do you wish to donate useable organs or tissues?

    I happened to be in the prayer room of our local hospital this past week, and there was a free brochure outlining several of these end-of-life issues for people… who are possibly facing them in a rather immediate fashion. I thought to myself that, while this is good info for these people, they would have been much better off doing it earlier than worrying about it when a loved one might be at death’s door!
    This is excellent advice, and while it is not necessarily fun to think about, it is easier to do when things are fine, than when they are not.
