Changes Ahead for Medicare Drug Program
Author: Byron UdellLots of changes are coming to Medicare in 2008. Prescription drugs are the culprit again and many of the 2 million Americans who depend upon Medicare for their coverage will find that they need to switch their insurance plans.
For those who are having trouble covering the cost of prescription medications, there are specialty insurance plans available to help with this cost in particular. Others may wish to look around and see if there isn’t a far less expensive way to go for all of their health insurance needs.
Patricia Nemore is the senior policy attorney at the Center for Medicare Advocacy. She says, “Everybody needs to shop around every year. Just because you like your plan this year doesn’t mean that plan will work the same next year.”
It seems that the reassigning of the poorest Medicare beneficiaries and the rising premiums for everyone else are two of the major reasons why shopping around may be the best option. Increases could be in the double digits. The adjustments are necessary to cover the rising costs of services and prescription drugs as well as safety measures and making sure that the most poor also have coverage. It’s just not always the best fit. Checking out quotes wouldn’t hurt and you just might end up with a better plan than last year.
