Nebraska: Now Hiring

Tag: UncategorizedByron Udell @ 7:57 am

The Cornhusker State is the newest hotspot for insurance and title companies looking to save a bundle on corporate taxes. Nine major firms have made the switch, AKA “re-domesticated,” from their previous home state in order to enjoy a 1 percent tax on written premiums. Almost all of them, including AFLAC, Pacific Life, USAA Direct and Fidelity Nationality Title have chosen Omaha as their new residence.

State lawmakers are insistent that each company bring more jobs to the area and not just slip by with a new headquarters on paper. A favorable business climate coupled with highly skilled and available workers promises an easy transition. The tax savings is just icing on the corporate cake, though it does give Nebraska an economic advantage equal to that of previously favored states, such as Delaware.

The city of Omaha as a whole has been going through some major reconstruction this past decade. It’s now ranked the 60th largest metropolitan area in the U.S. with an estimated population of about 1.2 million people in a 50 mile radius. New high rises in downtown commercial sectors, wealthy neighborhoods and condos have continued to expand the city both in size and stature. Quality education, relatively mild winters, and ample opportunities for recreation, arts, and entertainment offer something for everyone – including jobs.
