Healthy Indiana Insurance Opens Its Requirements

More people are now eligible for Healthy Indiana Plan. Prior requirements allowed the insurance option to be eligible to those only who were considered low-income and was based on a sliding scale. Single individuals limit is $20,800 while a family of four was limited to an income of less than $42,400.

Now, the insurance plan has expanded to allow residents that do not necessarily make the income requirements but have been unemployed for at least 6 months and are uninsured to be able to buy into the Healthy Indiana Plan.

Qualified residents will receive benefits that include preventive care including mammograms, prostate exams and yearly flu shots. It is said that those who participate in the plan will have a savings of $1,100 a year. However, there are some limits to who will be able to participate in these plans, like age: you must be between the ages of 19 and 64.

The plans cost will be different depending on age and gender. For instance, a male who is 25 years old will be expected to pay about $125 a month while a female who is 60 years old will pay about $550 a month.

Some experts have said that although it is good to have an insurance option, the cost may prevent some from being able to afford the plan.
