Most people don’t think about buying a life insurance policy until a life event happens. For instance, your neighbor that is only a few years older than you dies of a heart attack. Fortunately, he had a life insurance policy to protect his family.

Events like this will surely wake you up.  However, other life events or stages should also trigger the need for life insurance.  The following life events should trigger you to either buy life insurance if you haven’t already or review your current life insurance policy:

  • Newlyweds - Would your spouse have enough money to cover outstanding expenses if you died today? Saying I do should be the first indication that you need a term life policy.
  • New Parents – Raising a child is the most rewarding, yet expensive, thing a person can do in life. Life insurance makes sure your child is taken care of even if you’re not around.
  • Homeowner - For many people, their house is their most significant asset. A term life insurance policy can protect this asset as well as provide your family with the money they need to maintain the life style they are accustomed to.
  • Promotion - When income rises, spending tends to rise too. Make sure that you protect your family against bills, while allowing them to keep their lifestyle the same.
  • Retirement - Once your kids are out of the house are you going to kick your spouse out too? I didn’t think so. So, why would you risk NOT having life insurance to make sure your spouse can maintain his/her lifestyle if you were to die prematurely?

The bottom line is: If someone depends on you financially, then you need life insurance – no matter what stage of life you’re in.
